The Challenge
Following Cuscal’s acquisition of New Zealand payments company Paymark, the challenge was to introduce the Cuscal brand to the New Zealand market without losing the significant recognition and trust already held by the Paymark name. The identity also needed to avoid establishing a rigid branded-house precedent for future acquisitions. Cuscal Paymark had to work as one distinct expression within Cuscal Limited’s broader four-brand ecosystem, while allowing future brands to take different forms.

The Approach
We created Cuscal Paymark — retaining Paymark’s valuable name equity while introducing Cuscal as the connecting brand behind the business. Rather than simply applying the parent identity, we developed a flexible multi-brand system that balances connection with independence, giving Cuscal Paymark its own market presence while remaining recognisably part of the wider Cuscal ecosystem. The result: a brand built to introduce Cuscal to New Zealand, preserve Paymark’s established equity and create flexibility for whatever comes next.
